A coalition of U.S. solar manufacturers petitioned the federal government on Wednesday to impose tariffs on imports from four Southeast Asian nations, alleging that the countries are flooding the U.S. market with cheap products that threaten the domestic industry. The other six parties to the petition are Convalt Energy, Meyer Burger, Mission Solar, Qcells, REC Silicon and Swift Solar. They are requesting that the Commerce Department impose tariffs on solar cell imports from the four countries as a remedy. "This case is bad news for clean energy jobs and American solar manufacturing," Array CEO Kevin Hostetler said in a statement Wednesday. The ITC and Commerce Department investigations will take about 12 months to conclude, Brightbill said.

Nathan Howard for The New York TimesIn California, electric vehicles could soon account for 10 percent of peak power demand. AP Photo/Mike StewartIn interviews, utility executives say gas is needed to back up wind and solar power, which don’t run all the time. Gas plants can sometimes be easier to build than renewables, since they may not require new long-distance transmission lines. “It’s going to take a diversified fleet.”Mr. Mitchell noted that Georgia Power was planning a large build-out of solar power and batteries over the next decade and would offer incentives to companies to use less power during times of grid stress. The tech companies and manufacturers that are driving up electricity demand could also play a major role, experts say.

Midway through his face-to-face meeting with President Biden in Indonesia last fall, the Chinese leader, Xi Jinping, offered an unsolicited warning. For months, he and his aides had worked to recruit allied countries to impose their own restrictions on sending technology to China. The effort echoed the sort of industrial policy that China had employed to become the world’s manufacturing leader. In Bali, Mr. Xi urged Mr. Biden to abandon it. As Mr. Biden and fellow leaders of the Group of 7 nations meet this weekend in Hiroshima, Japan, a centerpiece of their discussions will be how to rapidly accelerate what has become an internationally coordinated round of vast public investment.
The 2.1 million square feet of space includes some of the newest clean energy technology and sustainability features. The floor is made of concrete from Carbon Cure, a clean cement company funded by Amazon's Climate Pledge Fund. Starting next week, the first of 8,000 Amazon employees will begin moving into one of two brand new 22-story towers in Arlington, Virginia. Amazon's HQ2, formally called Metropolitan Park, has many features that contribute toward the company's goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions across all operations by 2040. Hurst wouldn't say how much the sustainability features increased the cost of the development.
MILAN, April 7 (Reuters) - Italy's biggest utility Enel (ENEI.MI) said on Friday it agreed to sell its equity stakes in two Peruvian assets for $2.9 billion to China Southern Power Grid International (CSGI). Enel launched an asset sale plan in November that would narrow its focus to six core countries and cut its debt. At the end of last year, the company's net debt was down to 60.1 billion euros ($65.49 billion) from a peak of nearly 70 billion euros at the end of September. The deal is expected to reduce in Enel's consolidated debt by around 3.1 billion euros this year, with a positive impact of around 500 million euros on reported net profit. Under the agreement, Enel's Peruvian subsidiary will sell its entire stake of 83.15% in power distribution and supply company Enel Distribucion Peru and 100% of Enel X Peru, which provides advanced energy services, it said in a statement.
HOUSTON, March 3 (Reuters) - The chief executive of Saudi Arabian state oil company Aramco (2223.SE) will not attend an energy conference organized by S&P Global next week, the event's updated schedule showed. Amin Nasser, head of the world's largest oil company, had been listed as delivering a keynote address at CERAWeek, the largest gathering of high-profile oil executives and energy ministers. Nasser was one of the few high-level Saudi officials on this year's schedule and has been a regular presence at past CERAWeek conferences. The agenda for this year's event is dominated by major oil company executives and U.S. government officials, with fewer Middle East executives and officials. A record 7,000 people have signed up for the week-long event, which will includes discussions of fossil fuels, clean energy and advanced energy storage.
WASHINGTON—The Treasury Department is preparing to start a $10 billion program for subsidizing advanced energy projects and a new tax break for solar-and-wind projects in low-income communities. The two programs were created last year in the climate, health and tax law known as the Inflation Reduction Act. The department has been working to lay out the details of how the law’s tax breaks will work, as companies begin taking advantage of new incentives to invest in projects aimed at accelerating the country’s shift away from fossil fuels.

Matt Rogers went from Apple to Nest Labs and into many homes with the now-Google smart thermostat. He's looking to get into your home again, this time to solve America's food waste problem. After Nest, Rogers began work on several philanthropic projects, many focusing on climate-related initiatives. "We've kind of gotten used to the way things are, but it doesn't have to be that way," Rogers said. Mill now makes it easy for people to get rid of food waste and reduce their carbon footprint.
But perhaps their real battle will happen with electric delivery vans. "But the electrification of the commercial vehicle market," he said, "I think is underappreciated." Now, government support through incentives has bolstered EV momentum, and as a result, companies looking for electric fleets will only ask for more. How electric delivery van-makers plan to nail this downFord and GM's inherent advantages over rivals include name recognition, robust supply bases, and ample resources. "We've seen over the decades how strong brand loyalty is in the commercial vehicle segment," said AutoPacific analyst Robby DeGraff.
"I want to send a message to investors, developers, contractors looking at clean energy projects," said Labor Secretary Marty Walsh. The Inflation Reduction Act, which became law in August, allocated $369 billion toward addressing climate change through clean energy initiatives. Firms have to pay workers the prevailing wage for their area and abide by rules for the use of apprenticeship programs. The prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements are needed for companies to receive the Advanced Energy Project Credit, the Alternative Fuel Refueling Property Credit, the Credit for Carbon Oxide Sequestration, the Clean Fuel Production Credit, the Credit for Production of Clean Hydrogen, the Energy Efficient Commercial Buildings Deduction, the Renewable Energy Production Tax Credit and the Renewable Energy Property Investment Tax Credit. The prevailing wage stipulation is also required for the New Energy Efficient Home Credit and the Zero-Emission Nuclear Power Production Credit.
Rising fuel costs, the possibility of stricter emissions regulations to come, and questions about battery supplies, have all increased the appeal of zero-emission fuel cells. Volvo TrucksVolvo GroupCEO: Martin LundstedtMarket Cap: $32.97 billionHQ: Gothenburg, SwedenVolvo Trucks said in June 2022 it had begun testing hydrogen fuel-cell trucks. In the latter case, Plug Power has provided Amazon with more than 15,000 fuel cells to replace the batteries in its warehouse forklifts since 2016. Plug just signed a new deal to provide the behemoth with the liquid hydrogen necessary to run its fuel-cell vehicles starting in 2025.
